About the Event

Join Madeleine in this baking class as we learn how to make petites madeleines--the seashell-shaped lemon cakes made famous by Marcel Proust's most renowned literary work, À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time). The expression "madeleine de Proust" has since come to represent a trigger for a beloved memory of long ago.

If you have never tasted these small delicious cakes, now is your chance to experience what Marcel Proust called "extraordinary" and "a precious essence." (Honestly, he might have exaggerated a tad, but that's classical French literature and all its flowery rhetoric!)

The class will be from 2:15pm to 3:45pm EST online via Zoom. Please make note of your local time here

This baking workshop is free. However, please note that in order to create the famous seashell ridges in the madeleines, you will need to purchase a madeleines pan. Nonstick and silicone madeleines pans are readily available from retailers such as Amazon. There is no need to purchase expensive ones; $10 to $25 is the average price. (You are welcome to make lemon muffins with the batter instead, if you so choose.)

A list with the ingredients and other materials to use will be sent out by email one week before the workshop. All steps will be demonstrated on camera, so you don't need to be fluent in French to participate!

ALLERGIES: Petites madeleines traditionally contain eggs, wheat, and milk. The recipe can be adjusted to accommodate allergies and vegetarian/vegan diets. Please let Madeleine know as soon as possible if you need a recipe adjustment.

Register early to avoid the waitlist! We do ask that those who have changes in plan update their RSVP to allow others who are interested to join the class.

Merci beaucoup !
